Welcome

Since 2004, Pacific Bamboo Resources (PBR) has brought together citizens, students and professionals, and leaders in government, business and academics — locally, regionally, and internationally — to pursue new ideas for sustainable bamboo resources, resilient food systems, and related sustainable community and economic development.

In complement to talk of social change and sustainability ideas, we actively pursue on-the-ground projects to connect and “road test” theory-to-practice in meaningful ways.

Why bamboo?

With thousands of uses, bamboo has been an enduring, international resource of food and fuel, tools and building materials, housing, furniture, art and more for thousands of years. Often regarded as the principle resource of the world’s poor, the demand for bamboo has grown to become a tremendous economic force, a resource of increasing interest and value, and catalyst for sustainable development.

Thanks to all for your on-going contributions to date!! As a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization, we appreciate donations to support our projects.

Our short “wish list” is growing! We could use:

  • additional computer hardware and software (to complement our iMac & printer);
  • audio and video technology (to support program research and outreach)
  • website design and maintenance (have web skills — join us!);
  • farm, garden and home repair tools (will be used on the farm);
  • books, magazines and subscription gifts for our growing Sustainability Library;
  • funds to support our international Sustainability Internships (2012 inquiries are coming in from many states, countries and cultures — very exciting);
  • help with grant and fund-raising efforts;
  • funds to cover general expenses (much appreciated — as you might guess) ;

Contributing to our “wish list” is great way to support our work and join in on the creative fun.  Please contact Dr. Jonathan Scherch for arrangements.

Thank you!!
